UPDATE IN MULTIDISCIPLINARY TREATMENT APPROACH

Multidisciplinary approach becomes the “gold standard” way of treatment in our daily practice. For most of the patients this is mandatory and the treatment complexity increases as the number of doctors taking part in the working team, increase. The controversies in deciding the working protocol, who is the team leader and the factors influencing the treatment sequence in very complex cases are presented in this lecture.

Controversies in Multidisciplinary Treatment Approach for Complex Malocclusion.

For the patients with mild or severe grade of malocclusion the orthosurgical treatment is, in general, the right option. The complexity of such treatment is determined not by the level of jaw discrepancy or the asymmetry but by the needs of dental arch restoration due to the missing teeth. Alveolar bone reconstruction, implants placement and the type of the prosthetic restoration are influencing the treatment time and sequence, asking for a multidisciplinary approach. In such cases, the prosthodontist releases the guidance the orthodontist, surgeon and other specialists as part of the team should follow.
